The debut solo single from Lauren Mayberry, lead singer of CHVRCHES, “Are You Awake?” is an exquisite, enveloping piano ballad that spotlights the recording artist’s crystalline vocals. Driven by emotive lyricism and a softly swelling soundscape, the track was co-written with musician Tobias Jesso Jr and producer Matthew Koma. Mayberry will embark upon a solo tour this September.

A danceable new release from Melbourne-based recording artist Ben Hazlewood, “Chemical Roulette” finds the singer testing his limits and questioning his capabilities. The catchy song comes complete with a color-soaked music video that teases out the track’s clever lyrics. Of the songs inception, Hazlewood shares, “I could argue it was all a highly scientific experiment to create new neurological pathways; to bend and mould my mind into a new way of thinking. Or, call it what it was; a bender of epic degree, one in which I was crushed, then rebuilt, shattered and swept up. I hit the basement floor of pain and the highest heights of happiness. Whatever way I justify this time in my life… Chemical roulette is a game just as dangerous as it’s Russian counterpart but far more fun, and with this celebratory song of survival as memento of the best parts.”

From beloved Irish recording artist Sinéad O’Connor’s double platinum second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, “Nothing Compares 2 U” (written by Prince) became one of the biggest hits of the early ’90s. After decades of critical acclaim, commercial success and international attention over the course of ten studio albums, O’Connor died this week at age 56. To honor the influential, uncompromising and resilient singer, American pop star Pink invited singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile on stage in Cincinnati for an emotional rendition of the acclaimed track. The moving live tribute is but one of many from fellow musicians mourning the extraordinary talent.

Accompanying the announcement of a forthcoming seventh Explosions in the Sky studio album, End, the legendary post-rock quartet has shared the sprawling lead single, “Ten Billion People,” and a mesmerizing official music video that matches the track’s ascending soundscape. “Every song comes from a story, or an idea one of us has had that we’ve all expanded on and made its own world,” the band shared in a statement. As for the cryptic album title, it does not signify a final release. “Maybe it’s our nature, but we kept feeling that the album title was ultimately open to a lot more interpretation—the end of a thing or a time can mean a stop, but it can also mean a beginning, and what happens after one thing ends might pale in comparison to what it becomes next.”

teddy<3 (aka Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Teddy Geiger) has released an electric, dreamlike new single “True Love,” the first from her forthcoming record, Teresa. “The music originated from some ambient amp noise I had recorded and tuned and layered, a fuzzy little form emerged out of that,” Geiger says of the track. “‘True Love’ is about living truth, being honest with yourself, and knowing when to walk away.”

From Swedish singer-songwriter The Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson) comes an enchanting, upbeat third single, “Looking for Love,” from his forthcoming album, Henry St. For the track, Matsson worked with producer Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso. “The first day in the studio, Nick created this hissing noise while I was feedbacking electric guitar,” Matsson shares in a statement about the song’s origin. “We had so much fun jamming like that. Then Nick put down some piano to overdub my guitar, and we knew we had the song.”

Following her debut solo single, “Lifetime,” Romy returns with another uplifting dance-pop track, “Enjoy Your Life.” The song was inspired by and samples “La Vita” by singer-songwriter Beverly Glenn-Copeland, who Romy went to see live with fellow musician Robyn. The lyric “My mother says to me, ‘Enjoy your life'” stuck with the artist, a press release says, partly because her own mother passed away when Romy was just a child. That line became the hook for the enchanting track, which comes accompanied by a video directed by Romy’s wife, Vic Lentaigne. “It’s a very personal video,” Romy says in an Instagram caption. “I hope it reflects some of the emotion and the euphoria that I wanted to convey with the song.”
