Land Rover’s Limited Edition Defender Works V8 Reintroduction
The iconic vehicle’s fastest and most powerful version
Limited to 150 vehicles, Land Rover is celebrating its 70th anniversary by reissuing the Defender Works V8. Land Rover Classics will produce the collector’s edition machines, though the power and speed will be a true reflection of present day capabilities. The 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated petrol V8 powertrain will grant the beast a boost from 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds, and a top speed of 106mph. Among other attributes, according to the brand, the high-performance vehicle will feature uprated brakes and handling kit, exclusive 18-inch diamond-turned Sawtooth alloy wheels and 265/65 R18 all-terrain tires—and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with sport mode. All of this in either a 90 or 110 wheelbase.
The idea for the relaunch began back in 2014, yet collector interest has always been high. Ultimately, these automobiles pay homage to the “Series III Stage 1 V8” from 1979—and the Defender 4x4s since. Visually, eight standard body colors (including two satin finishes) will contrast the grille, wheel arches and a Santorini Black roof. Of course, there’ll also be the Defender bonnet lettering. There’s an updated refinement here that strikes the balance between sensibility and adventure. Altogether it’s not only visually appealing, but also has just about everything enthusiasts want (and perhaps expect) on the inside.
Unfortunately, the Defender Works V8 will not be available in the US. Anyone interested in the vehicle should reach out directly to Land Rover Classic: info[at]classic.landrover.co.uk or +44 (0) 203 601 1255. Prices start at £150,000 for a 90 wheelbase.
